Week 2
(4 & 5 yr old classes)
Letter Aa and the shapes were our main topics of discussion for the week. With every letter we learn, we also learn their sounds and a few words that start with that letter. We also counted the syllables by clapping our hands to see how many each word contains. We learned so much by compiling a shape book to take home and practice our four basic shapes. I hope your child can name each one and show you how much they have learned about them. We exercise each day to straighten our bodies and minds and try to have some healthy foods for our snack. This week we had cinnamon apple sauce, orange juice and low sugar animal shape cookies. The children had fun identifying what shape the cookies could be. Some of the animals even got dipped in the mud. (apple sauce). The students enjoyed enhancing their knowledge of the shapes by participating in the shape song. For this song they each get a shape and are asked to stand or sit down when the song mentions the shape they are holding. I feel so proud to see them having fun while learning. Our stories this week were about the Sesame Street Letter Aa and books on the Silly Shapes.
I just happened to hear from Buddy Bear and he is having a great weekend with his friends. We can not wait to hear all about the fun he had!

Fun Friday! Week 2
We had a blast! Many new educational toys were introduced to promote our knowledge of the four basic shapes and a few other shapes were introduced such as oval, octagon and diamond. We assembled a robot from the boxes and shapes brought in from home and we gave our class robot a name. I must say, "they turned out awesome!" Each child also practiced their shapes while gluing shapes on paper to make and take home their own paper robot. Each robot was named for making him a more personal figure. Some names were quite amusing and some familiar.
Our snack was started with a place mats with the basic shapes. Stick pretzels and Cheerios were passed around for the students to make the shapes to match those on their place mats. Then they made them disappear. Some of my friends also added cereal to their milk for a treat. If time allowed, we played Whack-a-Mole with the shapes. You could feel their excitement!
